Difference Between GameServers and GameTracker Service?

GT Gold Offers:
16 Max Users - Teamspeak
Private Game Server - No - Well, yes, you can just set a password
Public Game Server - 16 Max Users - That is alot of slots.

All this for $9.95/month?

Vs.

GameServer.com
Offers 9.95 for 8 Server Left 4 Dead, with nothing else...Am I missing something here?

Is it me or is there something I am not understanding here, but from what I can gather. GameTracker offers twice the value of GameServer, for the same price! That is a steal...anyone want to clarify?

Hello,

You are reading correctly. We offer the GT Gold package at a special low rate. The servers in this package are to be considered 'self-managed' as we do not offer the extensive support that GameServers.com offers.

The GT premium package has support which ensures that your server is operational - but that's basically it. Ordering through GameServers.com will provide you with better assistance with configuration, etc.

Best regards.
I do not provide support over PM. Please ask your questions on the GameTracker forums.

So basically, you own the game, you set it up (by you, i mean the user wanting the game server). If I stand that correctly, I should not have problem I host servers on my personal machine so this should not be a problem, and for that price. I am very much happy, Game Servers service is terrible and they know barely anything about modding. So therefor, I think gametrackers service is much better than anything.

If I understand that correclty? I must also install the server myself? Would be tedious, because 6.7 GB of Left 4 Dead installation is...welll difficult.

Hello again,

You do not need to install the game server yourself. Upon registering for GT premium, you will have access to a control panel via the 'Premium' tab at the top of GameTracker. This will allow you to manage the game server and voice server.

Keep in mind, the plans are fixed. You can change the game server type, at any time, but you cannot add additional servers.

If you plan on renting additional servers, we refer customers to GameServers.com (which, unfortunately sounds like you have had a bad experience).

Best regards.

I am only looking for a server, i do not need any staff for support on how to run a game or host a server, other than the actual server that host it. As I am very familiar on how to run it without problems.

Last Question: FTP Access? To install mods, maps, edit files?

Ah, one last question.

What Operating System is the server under? Windows, or Bloody Linux?
Are there any limitation for FTP Access? File names, Folder names, changing permissions of read/write, etc?

Email support [at] gametracker [dot] com to ask about the operating system.

I believe you are some what restricted on FTP but that would be primarily to prevent you from making it a nonsteam server, but you can ask Premium support that as well.
I am retired from GameTracker after 11 years and will not be responsive for support requests.
