Not sure whats going on here o be honest.
i have my server set up now and added to my steam group so i can see it from inside the game and join by clicking on it.
i can also use the console and type.
connect 92.13.159.181:9459 and it works
i can also do
connect 192.168.1.12:9459

i check port checker and it says 27015 is open and forwarding fine.
i also host a team speak server and an assetto corsa server which i have to port forward and they work just fine.
my computers have a static ip address. my isp is dynamic but rareley changes and i have a dns update tool that refreshes my dns redirect if my wan ip address changes..

and i can also connect to the server with that..
"connect mydnshostaddress:9459"

But no one has joined my server since it was made. And i cant add it to game tracker. i tried using my public ip address. and my dns host address.. but still no joy.
i used to have a l4d1 server added here about 5 years ago. and i did not have this issue then.
i use the -console command for starting the dedicated server. and it seems to be working fine. but it also looks asthough it is being LAN only for some reason. here is the command i use from a short cut to start the server "srcds.exe -console -game left4dead2 +exec server.cfg +map c1m1_hotel"

its being quite annoying to be honest. Any help would be great thanx.

think i have it fixed now, but it does not show up in my steam groups any more?

people now have to join from console with connect command..

well now it keeps saying server is dead when its empty. but if any one connects to it its alive again..
