Star Wars: The Old Republic Goes Free-To-Play Up To Level 15

Star Wars: The Old Republic got great reviews and was seen by many as a worthy successor to BioWare's beloved Knights of the Old Republic. But it's suffered declining subscriber numbers and had to deal with layoffs. Now they're trying to reverse the trend with free play… up to a point.

If you haven't yet tried the game, you'll now be able to play it up to level 15 completely free and with no time limit. If you tried the game through one of the previous free weekend trials or using a referral from a friend, the offer will also be open to you. Origin Worlds will be open as well as Flashpoints and PvP zones.

It leaves open the larger question of what will happen to the game, however. We've speculated before that a re-release bundle of the Knights of the Old Republic games may also be an attempt to revive interest in the MMO.

Regardless of EA and Bioware's motives, if you've wanted to try the game but didn't want to commit any cash up front, now would be the time to try it out.
