Gamespy is going to come to end soon and several hundred games will be terminated from being played online.

There are some simple alternatives, but first here's some links about the shutdown:

One gaming alternative for PC games is Tunngle. It's a free program that allows a game and a dedicated server to be run on LAN mode, for others to play and create games who are also using Tunngle.

How to Tunngle:

Tunngle is relatively easy to setup and doesn't require Gamespy or an "online" service.

In short, you make a free Tunnngle account, install Tunngle, then join the Tunngle chatroom for the game you want to play. Then launch your game and go to the LAN mode. You will see, and be able to play with other people using Tunngle.

There are not so many alternatives to console gaming. You can probably kiss consoles good bye.

There is some stuff available like Xlink Kai, but it's a hassle to setup, has less players, and the site is rather unfriendly and getting help is impossible.

Another alternative to PC gaming is GameRanger. It does what Tunngle can do.

Have fun while you can using the online for your Gamespy games, this just isn't SWBF2.

There is no need to use Tunngle - a little team decided to re-engineer the gamespy protocol and for now you could play online without registering at tunngle, gameranger, ...

just download the updated battelfrontII.exe (for version v1.0 or/and v1.1) and play... Only difference in these files are the hostname for the gamespy masterserver.

But please have a look: http://game-share.de/gamemaster

As kandru said, tunngle is now useless : gameshare will replace gamespy master server.

You only need updating BattlefrontII.exe in C:/Program Diles/Lucas Art/Star Wars Battlefront II/Game Data folder.
