When i try to join a server from this website the game crashes on start up

The crash problem could be related to the GT Lite in-game service. You could try disabling in-game services for TF2.
In-game services are located on the Game Setup tab of the Settings window. "Edit" TF2 and uncheck the several in-game options. Note that this requires a game restart.
