I probably need to wipe my whole Windows partition and set it up again because some crap happened to the NET Framework and now the UDK ceases to even start up and all attempts to fix that problem failed.
That sucks. ![]() Hopefully I can set everything up properly again and don't loose important data. I am especially afraid of getting the internet connection to work then, as that usually takes three hours and we have no clue what we need to do to please the ghost inside the machine. ![]() ![]() |

See? That's what you get for angering the UEd Goblin.

Yeah, I should have sacrificed the pig to him instead of Fortuna.
![]() Actually that's what I get for trying an UnrealScript Debugger from a guy with only 7 posts… and I will burn in hell anyway since I use Windows. We all know that the most annoying thing is to back up all the gigs of porn. ![]() |

The more pertinent question is, what the hell are you doing in 2011 without a recently backed up OS image file that you can restore whenever something goes wrong in a matter of 7-10 minutes? Other than the OS, of course, nothing else of importance should exist on the OS partition either. This shit is fundamental.

Nothing than the OS exists on my OS partition. I was just not sure if formatting the partition would be possible or if it had to format the other partition on that HDD as well.
Until now were the system backups that Windows creates before updating any system component enough (they already saved my ass twice) and I even tried to restore a four days old backup (successfully), but that didn't fix the problem this time. I now got to know the reason (and a new installation wouldn't have fixed it either): Avast Antivir was for some reason blocking some .NET applications (without telling you that it did that), which was at least addressed in a new pre-release version now. So I am spared by the G0bl1n this time. ![]() |

My experience is mainly with winXP (Vista and Win7's certain features and changes annoyed me to no end so I couldn't stand them), but if your OS is similar in this regard the advice should hold: do not rely on any windows backup method to save or restore your OS to the exact state it was at the time you did the "backup". In fact, I strongly recommend disabling the System Restore Service altogether which also saves system resources and using a 3rd party program like Acronis True Image Home or Norton Ghost since they should both save you wasted disc space on the OS partition (the OS images would obviously be stored somewhere more secure) and guarantee a 1-to-1 compressible copy of your OS partition that covers files, registry structure, even the pagefile itself. Get one of those any way you prefer and make a point of doing a backup once every 3 or 6 months - you should be totally covered that way.
PS: crusha_k_rool wrote:Although your english has otherwise improved a lot over the last year, I've seen you do this a hundred times over now and it always makes me cringe. Who taught you you should reverse the subject-verb sequence in non-question sentences? This is utterly wrong and it makes you stand out like a sore thumb as a non-native speaker when you could be doing so much better. It's not like anybody else in the english speaking communities you frequent does this, so I've no idea where you could've picked that up from (some german msg board with ppl learning english as they go perhaps?). Plz stop it. No offense intended. |

I probably did too much Latin in compare to English in school this year, so it might be that I mix the parts of a sentence a bit randomly together. Maybe you can get over this one by telling yourself all the time that it would be a hyperbaton. :>
Besides that it's the sequence that one would use in German, so that did it's rest. ![]() |
