I asked Wormbo to add a function in his next version of Anti-TCC that sends a message in the chat when a player changes his nick during a match or if he leaves the server to do that and join a few minutes later.
He said that he could do it and he's just figuring the best way to do that, so the players are able to recognize cheaters or normal players who change their nicks to do some bad stuff more easily, even when the admin is not there. A kick-vote on a cheater would probably never pass anyway, but it's still a good thing to have. ![]() |

The warning messages are a nice idea, but it shouldn't be based on IDs, but on IPs, many players are sharing one copy of the game. That poor guy is using 3 IDs and few IPs, he probably doesn't have a static one. I've banned all the IDs and wide IP range XX.XX.*. And yes, he played SPAMBOX and Chainisile too.

In my proposition I wrote ID / IP, it's about Wormbo what to use.

Actually, it can't be based on IDs to prevent horrible flood of warning messages. Let him know please.

Hmm, seems like I missed out on all the fun this week, huh? Ah, well...
This cheat has me concerned. Not because some ppl in those chat logs think it's Foibos' fault for not being on duty 24/7 (although I have mentioned before that a few extra admins helping out wouldn't hurt) or that this somehow happened due to his negligence, no. Ppl can think that this problem has the potential to ruin TechCom or that they might have it better just by moving to another ONS server, but the truth of the matter is Wormbo's Anti-TCC is the latest, most secure and pretty much the only piece of code we got that's up with the times and everybody running a respectable server's using it; if you know of something better, plz do share, but if not, wise up and recognize that this cheat could hit and affect any server just as easily. Bottom line is, until Wormbo's notified of this and gets a change to investigate how the anti-cheat's integrity checks and common UT assets lockdowns were circumvented (and hopefully issue a fixed/patched version), we're all in the same boat here and the most that can be done is keeping a watchful eye out to kick/ban offenders upon suspicious activity. Anything else is just pointless and misdirected bitching IMO. Half-measures like warning players about who logs in matching certain IPs when and with what nicks won't help much either and will only fuel paranoid speculation and witch hunts; hold tight for now, play with ppl you trust and wait till this gets fixed, folks. Oh, one more thing: hekamephi wrote: hekamephi wrote:You know, Heka, I've been following your displays of increasing immaturity these last months meaning to ask you whether you really believed that all of us who you decided to make your friends and share the griefing and teamkilling... goodness with would actually enjoy - or even approve of - such stuff, especially considering we're all UT players who've been plagued by shit like that ourselves and can relate. As tasteless and annoying as that behaviour seemed to me sometimes, I still thought you were a reasonable guy that I could get along with. Hell, I even gave you the benefit of the doubt when I first saw you tack that lame religious bashing bigotry on your GT status thinking it couldn't be the same person I've been playing with for over a year now writing this tripe and most likely your younger brother had gotten online on your comp to piss you off or something. Seeing you admit to it here though, I guess there's no point mincing words just in case. Look, kiddo, if you're going through a rough patch in life and you're looking for someone to blame because things will magically get better then, feel free to pick from whatever extremist propaganda is on your society's political menu and eat that shit up whole if you want. When you choose to drag that garbage online, however, and plaster it right in the face of an international community where lots of people are bound to follow one religion or another (I myself am a militant atheist, but in cases like that, I'm always happy to lend a hand) pretending your hate motto is a valid, intelligent argument, I say that's about when you need to pull your head outta your ass and start thinking straight. Do you really think a religion somewhere is telling people to come to your country so they can annoy you? Do you honestly believe people living in such poverty that you wouldn't even imagine abandon their families and risk life, freedom and what little money they've got so they can come over to mess with your little life or play boogeyman in your cities' parks at night so rich kids won't dare hang there at night? That they enjoy being given all the menial work that needs doing in the western world for what we consider scrap wages because deep down after they get back to the 2x2m room they call home at night they'll rub their hands in joy that they "stole" a job from a native slacker? Do you even think religion has anything at all to do with illegal immigration and economic refugees or that you're having it worse than other european countries receiving wave after wave of such people (I live in Greece, buddy, we're practically a fokn turnstyle for anyone trying to cross over into the EU)? Seriously, I dunno who fed you this stereotypical neo-nazi poison for your brain or why you're deciding to center your life around hate now than chase your own dreams, but get a fokn grip already and try to put yourself in someone else's shoes for once. I'd love to know what your brilliant plan is for surviving in a 3rd world country with no jobs to offer and a family to feed. I'd also love to know what your religion is (christianity probably) and why, in your mind, it doesn't "suck" compared to any other, and plz feel free to elaborate as long as you want if or when you decide to reply. Btw, props for telling that guy off accusing you of being a racist when you were really religion bashing; at least you know your hatred brands, kudos for that! Anyway, I think I've went on enough and I truly don't care to legitimize this intolerance-spreading crap or derail this thread any further by returning to the subject again. One last thought I've been meaning to mention for a while now though: I think it's about time we included some basic rules & guidelines both on the server as well as here regarding religious, racial or any other type of slurs.

pegasus_ wrote: At first: I take my head off infront of you for putting our thoughts into words again like we could have never done. For the rules: Enhancing the forum-rules regarding the given problems is possible. But it's not as easy to get some working rules for the server, at least according for Foibos. His argumentation was that most of the players there would just not care (may it be because of missing interest in the MotD in general or the forum or just any kind of rules). However, I say: Make a separate thread for server-rules in the announcement-forum and link it with a TinyURL in the MotD. Everybody who wants to play on Techcom will need to accept that rules (I know, they would be skipped as fast as a software-EULA, but they still would have agreed). Violations on the rules are punished with ban and I am talking about a really, really, really long time for being banned. But in order for such a thing to work in general, may it be with server-rules here or directly in the MotD, we just need more than one admin. Maybe not a fullpowered admin, who could add and remove maps and stuff, but who could kick players and who could also ban them. Depending on Foibos trust in this admin, the half-admin could be limited to ban a player only for a week and Foibos would have to approve a longer ban by himself. But you get the idea. ![]() |

If you want to force people to agree to some rules:
http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=704725 I am not sure if that was DruidsPlayerAgreement (it is very likelyhowever), but once I stumbled upon a Trials server which had an agreement message. Upon connecting, you had the message displayed (in a UT2004 message window), with a ticking box and additionally a timer to be sure that you read the rules.

Yeah, I saw that too once… was on some RPG-server.
And for the cheaters: I sometimes visit a Ballistic DM-server that has a quite annoying anti-cheat, causing you a lot of lag each time you connect to it in the first seconds followed by a last final freeze while accessing your harddrive to check for external files out of your UT-directory. Might be efficient, but nothing that I'd do to the players of a public servers. Maybe it's some kind of ancient Anti-TCC with very high security. ![]() |

Two days ago there was a player with the nick IslamicCola. I told him to change his nick because I still had this thread in mind.
Well, he did not. I have to admit that there's nothing bad about the nick itself but it just looked provocative to me but of course I can't tell if Igor or anyone else with that confession would have felt hurt. Anyways, he insisted on his nick but instead of discussing why he use such a nick he just became a troll and wrote some mindless crap. (I think he was German, according to his behaviour and the fact that he could call Linke only a communist because he had some political-historical knowledge of Germany. And that background is nothing I would think of a foreigner to have.) ![]() |
