Obama Calls for Government-funded Game Violence Research
On Wednesday, the 16th of January, 2013, President Obama prompted Congress to begin researching video game violence. He would like the Congress of the USA to determine if there is a link between video game violence and real life violence for young people.

This important study would be part of a $500 million plan for research and actions targeted at gun control.

Specifically, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be using $10 million of the funds to determine if violence in video games, television, movies, and other sources of entertainment are resulting in increased gun violence.

Wouldn't be easier to ban the guns and not make them so accessible for everyone? It's so simple: no guns ,no gun violence. They shouldn't have so permissive laws for guns.

this is a waste of time, it has already been done many times..

but.. Tobacco kills (a very conservative estimate) 1,200 people every day, 1080 of of them were hopelessly addicted to Tobacco as Children, 540 of that 1080 were hopelessly addicted to Tobacco age 12 or younger. this Statistic sets the bar for acceptable Collateral death pretty high... except when they want to usurp our constitutional rights.

Prescription Drugs are involved in nearly all or all of mass shootings.

when they say call your doctor if you have thoughts of "suicidality" it is already too late.. you are already down the rabbit hole. no one can convince you that you are hallucinating, that is the definition of hallucination. i can vouch for that, i happened to me. i thought everyone was dead, and i had to find some place to go die.. lucky for me i was a Hippie in the 70's and recognized it was just a bad trip.

Zimmerman killed Travon Martin on 2 different Perspirations known to cause aggression/violence/agitation.

there is a Media TABOO about mentioning the deadly side effects of drugs, they are NOT SIDE EFFECTS.. they are the "EFFECTS'

Honestly I think this is a load of bullshit and 2 primary reasons come to mind
1: It is one of THE BIGGEST industries in the world still doing well.
2: They're just looking for a scapegoat because violence is everywhere, especially on the news, where the politicians make their infamous stands against crime.

If one doesn't have the mental capacity to see the difference between RL and Gaming, or thinks of gaming as a training ground then one should not play games in the first place. And as another poster said: Games have content restrictions for this, among many other reasons.

Funny thing is that the money they make off the industry will probably fund this research

So ridiculous. There's a rating on the game for a reason, if you're not mature enough to be able to tell the difference between killing people in real life or in a game, then you should not be playing that game. Same goes for movies.

People are like cells, when you have 400 million, a few go cancerous or berzerk. Condolences to the families!

Omfg, its all about how u raise your kids, whats wrong and whats not!
By ownedbyanub | Jan 23, 2013 7:21 PM
Stupid waste of tax payers money. People kill people not guns, and they do it because they not right in the head, PERIOD, but go ahead blame it on video games. I've been playing vids for 30 yrs now and I know right from wrong because I was raised properly by my parents.
By cyg11 | Jan 23, 2013 5:42 PM
how about movies? research movies with regards to violence as well
By rush001 | Jan 22, 2013 2:25 PM

Only thing that is getting ME violent of games is the pushed-back release dates and overpriced DLC's. But i ain't reacting out to other people (just need to buy a new pc screen once in a while :P)

I don't see why ppl voted for this moron. Twice!?!?!

I love how the "fiscal cliff" bill, that extended part of tax cuts, actually had $20 MILLION pork for Hollywood producers. Pay back for all those celebrity-commercials getting Barry re-elected.

So this study is utterly pointless... cuz any results discovered that make Hollywood look like they're to blame - that data will get flushed just like the $500mil going to this study.

I guess violent behavior in children is unique to the past 30 years in the history of the world, because that's about how long video games have been around

Games and guns dont kill people, people kill people. Any sane person knows the difference.

Unfortunately Osama Obama isnt one of them. Never ceases to amaze me how stupid politicians are, instead of dealing with the real problem of getting guns away from lunatics it's always about the guns.

You don't think if a mentally deranged person can't get a gun, he cant find a away to blow up the whole school.

And before all the liberal lunatics go ape I'm from Canada so don't bother.

HOW stupid is this Muslim?? that a waste of money its the mind bending drugs the docotrs give!!
By ned-kelly5 | Jan 18, 2013 10:45 AM
I would put myself forward as a test subject too, and I'd only charge $1,000/hour. I would play the most violent, gore-filled games I could, then head off to the playground >:D I would play for 10,000 hours until I leave for the kiddies and the busy areas, which'll take me right up to about the 10 mill they're throwing down the drain at CDC.
